THE NELSON CARNIVAL.
Nelson, J. n 23 The city is full of vsito-s for the Cirnival, steamers having brought large numbers during the past week, and about 800 arrived to-day. The Carnival wai, 0 iginally inteuded as a celebration of the Trafalgar Centenary, but the season being inconvenient, it was decided to hold it at the same time as the anniversiryof the Nelson province, and a full week's festivities were arranged for. The proceedings began to-dry with a Cnutch parade, attended by the volunteers and firemen, including the representatives to the F.re Brigade Confeieoce, a-i well as the bands taking part iti the band contest. Those in the parade had to prcceed to their several Churches. To day has been rathrr showery, but aofe3 of fine weither are entirtaineJ. The city is daily decorated with bunting, palms, etc.
