Gisborne, June 7. The functions in connection with t^e Governor's visit were a great success.

Hi.« Excellency was at a citizen's banquet, and on Sunday there was a church parade. A powerful sermon on the ideal life was preached by the Rev Dawsou Thomas. The weather kept fine uniil an hour after the seivice, when a keen

southerly wind set in with showers. In hia remarks, His Excellency extolled the farming interests as the chief source of the colony's future prosperity. The steamer from Auckland did not arrive until 10 minutes past five. The night wha stormy for the departure. The launch left the wharf about 5.35 notwithstanding which a large crowd assembled.
