Tbe ship Cotterthun, Which arrived to«day, has nearly all her crew suffering from Java fever. Two died, and the third officer is in a critical condition. She has been admitted to pratique as the disease is not contagious.

Sir H. Loch, at an official dinner, said he hoped the union of the colonies would be brought about by the Federal Council, which offered the readiest means.
The importation of New Zealand sheep will be prohibited io Victoria and South Australia after November 1, owing to scab.

The Rev Mr Savage, missionary, and the native teachers and crew of the London mission vessel Mary, visiting the natives of Deberre on the east side of Rewi, New Guinea, have been massacred. There are no details.
