ACRE GREEK RUSH.

[fbom otje own cobhespondbnt.]

The paragraph which appearad ia last Friday s issue of the Times relative to gold baring been obtained in Sullivan and party's shaft ia ineorroat, as the party referred »o were not so fortunate, and up to that date the only party who had obtained gold were Lohnaann and party, the prospectors. I am happy to state that the news this morning is of a mire favorable nature, inasmuch as O'Brien and party, who are driving a tunnel to their claim, situate some distance to the north of the prospectors, havo by sinking occasionally from the tunnel floor a few feet in depth on to the bottom, obtained fair prospects at a point about 300 yards from the tunnel mouth ; also that Murdock and party (who had sunk a dufhr shaft last week, and consequently shifrid their position,) have discovered washdirt with prospect* similar to that of JLohrnanu's by driving from a small creek about 20 chains nearer the beach than Lohinann's, still adjoining the D.J. survey line, and about YV.N.W. from the prospectors. 'I hey have applied at tbo Warden's Court to-day for water and oiher rights in connection with their claim, i. seiar Mitchell and party have s.ot v little gold on a sideling about 20 chains south of LohmannV, on the foil to the Kapitea cieek, and have applied for a water right, tunnel, &c. Morris and party, on the eastern boundary of the prospectors, are down with their second shaft 66 ftet (t,he fiat having been bottomed at a depth of 56 feet), so that they may bottom at any moment. The prospectors, who are within 300 feet of Morris's, now b'l'cve theirs to bo an east and wtst ruu, which is likoly to be tapped by tWorris and pmy. Strange to say, the latter party, at a depth of 30 feet in their present shaft, came upon what they te r m a tecond surface in the shape of timber roots and trunk" of fern trees Standing perpendicular, which impresses them with the idea hat an old creek bed must ' have been adjacent to where the nbaf fc is now being sunk. On the whole the news from the now field is much more encouraging this than last week. August 1, 1887.
