AUSTRALIAN NEWS.

Melbourne, Jan. 11.
The cricket match between the Australian team and eighteen of Bendigo, was concluded at Sandhurst to-day, and resulted in a victory for the former by 10 wickets.
The Australasian Insurance and Banking Record has an article commenting on the New Zealand loan. It draws attention to the date of issue and the minimum fixed, and says that it looks like an attempt to "jostle." The Victorian Record adds, that it is the first time in the history of the colonies, that such a proceeding has occurred. Sydney, Jan. 11.
Mr J. S. Farnell, Secretary for Lands, has been re-elected without opposition.
Mr G. H. Reid, Minister of Public Instruction, has defeated his opponent, Mr Elkington by a large majority.
