A LONG BILL.

Dunedin, May 28.

The Herald this morning, commenting on the trial of Whitaker v. Jones, says that the cost of the prosecution will be considerably under £200, while that of the defence according to the bill of costs recently delivered, will amount to £2117 14s. Amongst the items composing the bill are the following : — Paid Mr Rees £540 ; paid Mr Rees' refresher £275. Paid Mr Hislop £270, refresher to Mr Hislop £137 10s. It is. stated that other items equally outrageous could be culled from the bill of costs presented by Recs and Hislop.
