SAILING OF THE N.Z. S. CO.'S OPAWA.
This fine vessel sailed on Saturday morning. As before stated, the Taiaroa was bringing some gold fro'»f ro'» the North for her, but as it was doubtful when the steamer would arrive, as she had left Wellington late and the wind was dead against her, it was resolved not to wait, but to despatch the Opawa .without the gold, which will be sent to Dunedin to go home per Otaki. Without the -gold, however, tho Opawa takes home au exceedingly valuable cargo, of which the annexed list gives an approximate value : —
The passengers, forty in number, went off to the ship about 10 a.m. on Saturday, and were accompanied as usual, by the chairman of the directors and manager of the company. The breeze was light S.W. when the Titan canted the ship at 11 a.m. The tug towed her along merrily, and at 12.40 p.m. Pigeon Bay was well opened. The line was then cast off, and cheers having been interchanged, the Opawa stood away under full sail, and before night was well clear of the land. We wish Captain Friston buccess in his new command, and hope he and his passengers will have a pleasant and speedy trip home. — Press, Feb. 11th
