Auckland, January 16.

Mr Rees addressed a meeting of the City East electors last night, and reviewed the events of the late session. The only important part of his speech was that in which he spoke of his resignation, and said that he found thai his private interests and . political duties were such that be must either resign or give up his private practice. lie was removing to another district, aud left it to his constituents whether he ought to resign. A vote of confidence was passed. The feeling of the meeting was opposed to his resignation.
