MR BARFF'S METING S.
Mr Barff addressed a meeting at Boy's Hotel at the Blue Spur on Friday evening ]Vlr Shaffrey was in the chair. Mr Barff gave a lengthy statement of his conduct as representative, and of his views upon matters likely to be considered during the ni xt .«eF«ton of the Assembly. At the close of the meetinp, and after a number of question" had been put to the candidate, a vote of confidence was almost unanimcnsly p-i'sed. The meeting was a most orderly one throughout. On Saturday evening, Mr Barfl addressed another and a numerously attended meeting held in the concert hall of the Star Hotel, Kanieri, at which Mr Dale presided. Mr Barff addressed the meeting at considerable length, nnd was subjecttd to a very severe and prolonged cross-examination. Mr M'Lean repeatedly attempted to address the meeting, as an opponent of the candidate, and there were munerous disorderly interruptions thr ughout the meeting, which ended in some confusion as to the voting for or against the motion and co»nter-inotion put ; the proceedings concluding with the usual vote of thanks to fb<? We underhand that Mr Barff, whose intention it was to have addressed a meeting in Hokitika this eveniug, ii' possible, will do so to-morrow evening, at Hanson's Assembly Rooni3, at an hcur of which due uotice will be given.
