ARTE SIAN WELLS.
To thi Editor of the Count Times and Observer. Sik — My letter io Mr Prosper s'mply j embodied the opinions of some of the most eminent geolo:ri>fs of the day on the subject of artesian wells, concluding with my own observations o»i the subject, and the deduction, to a certain degree specu ative, that iniglit be assumed from all these ideas. This is not unfavorable to ultimate success ; but I do not go so far as you say in to-day's issue, " that there is not, the least difficulty in the world iv securing a water-supply from this source, n t o:.ly well suited to our wants, but at a comparatively ridiculously low cost," &c. The letter was a private one, and I have no co})v or I would have -ent you one. As Mr rVoss-r has thoughc it worth bringing fo the notice of the Municipal Councillors, I hiive no ohjcjti'm 1 to any or all of it being mr.ije public, as your article referred to tends to | roduce a misconception of the mutter. I am, Sir, &c. MALCOLM FRASEE. May 17. [The letter in question was not read at the Council, nor were airy particulars given, but the general tone oi the late Mayor's ren a;ks was such as to justify such a conclusion. We shall have great pleasure in publishing the letter when it i* available, and give the public an opportunity of judging for themselves. — Ed. IK.C7 7 .]"
