Adelaide, Saturday, Nov. 21.
A "company has been formed for the construction of a railway to Glenelg, to be called the Adelaide Marine and Suburban Railway. A bill Avill be introduced into Parliament to authorise the formation of the line, and to incorporate the company. There are sixteen entries for the Jockey Club Handicap, and three for the Handicap Steeplechase.
Nov. 23.
Intelligence from Western Australia states that His Excellency Governor Hampton and his family, left King George's Sound in the R.M.S. Bombay for England.
Tuesday, Nov. 24.
A monster meeting of the ratepayers is convened to-night, in the Town Hall, to consider the merits of the candidates for the mayoralty. Messrs Fuller (thepresent Mayor), Cogiin, and A. J. Baker are the candidates at present. in the field. rr * 'lie import market is generally more active, and is likely to be favourably influenced by the English mail advices received by the Avoca. The corn market is quieter, and no firstclass samples of wheat are offering.
Wednesday, Nov. 25,
In the Legislative Assembly, the Treasurer laid on the table the remodelled Estimates. His estimate of the expenditure is about £40,000 less than that of his predecessors, principally arising from a reduction in the item of Public Works.
Notwithstanding the general information circulated wiih respect to our new Governor, no official intimation has been received here either re-pecting his appointment or when he is likely to arrive. Thursday, Nov. 2G.
The weather is«ray fine and warm.
The Government have introduced their new Land Bill into the Assembly. It is based entirely upon the policy enunciated by Mr Stiangways when he took office. The home Government have authorised Colonel i-Jamley, the Acting-Governor, to receive full salary until the date of the departure of Sir J. Fergusson, the new Governor, who will from that date be entitled to half-pay until he arrives.
Mr G. M. Allen, formerly editor of the Sati7'ist, who was imprisoned for libel, has been liberated from gaol.
The corn market is without alteration. Sellers are buying new wheat for early delivery at 4s 9d. In the import markets sales of over 150 bales of cornsacks are reported to-day at 13s. Candles are also firmer, and owing to advices by the mail holders ask higher rates.
Friday, Nov 27. . The weather is very hot and oppressive. The thermometer has been at 102 in the sbade.
In making his financial Statement to the Assembly last night, the Treasurer made a favorable impression oil the House.
The Government have decided not to engage a steamer to convey the surveyparty to the north, as originally intended, and a sailing vessel will be chartered. On the tenders being opened for 676 shares in the National Bank, it was found that four times the number were tendered for at an advance on £6, but the actual price has uot yet transpired. There was a sudden fall this morning iv Wheal Hughes mining shares, and the present price is £2 13s. The corn market is firm. Sales of new wheat for delivery next mouth.
