Two ruffians, named respectively William Trodden, alias Podgey, and Joseph Blake| have each been sentenced .to twenty years' penal servitude^ the first three in irons, having been found guilty on two charges of robbery with violence. Rockhajipton, Sept. SO.

News has been received from the Gulf of Carpentaria of the discovery of gold and copper in the Gi\lf country. ..The specimens o^ copper p.re.which haye.beeri brought to Rbckhamp'toii are said to contain sixty per cent, of the metal. It is suggested by parties who havo given attention to the subject, that the copper deposits new discovered bear out the theory previously advanced, that the same line of copperbearing strata extends from New South Wales through Queensland and the Gulf of Carpentaria to the Netherlands ludian possessions, where they are bc-iug worked. The reefs continue to yield fairly. From a lot of 79 tons, taken from Valentine's Reef, 223 ounces of txo'd were obtained. Other crushings have taken place, biit have hot yielded so well. • Two rieyr reefs have been discovered, both of which promise toturn out payable. .
