Private considerations would, most probahly; , have prevented me from doing so, hut calumnious statements have been so persistently and continuously published concerning my public character and conduct, that I feel it imperative to seek my vindication at the hands of the public. I desire to avoid personalities ; nor sha 1 ! I use any undue means to promote my return. At the same time I am prepared' to justify every act I _ have done during my tenure of office, and will meet the Electors on different occasions for the purpose of doing so. WI. SHAW.
