SEPARATION FROM EASTLAND. PUBLIC MEETINGS aro appointed to take place as follows :—: — At GREYMOUTH— On Friday Evening. At RUTHERGLEN— On Saturday Evening. A Deputation from the Council of the Westand Separation League will attend. All the Meetings will take place at 8 o'clock p.m. sharp on the dates mentioned. 9861 WESTLAND SEPARATION LEAGUE. AMENDMENT OF THE PETITION. fnHE attention of persons who have i -*- signed the Petition of the League, is called to the circumstance that, subsequently to some copies of the petition, as originally printed, being put in circulation, the Council deemed it expedieut slightly to modify the form of the prayer, in order to secure a unanimous expression of pubh'c feeling. The prayer of the Petition, as amended, j runs as follows, the new words being enclosed within brackets : — Your Petitioners therefore earnestly and respectfully pray that your Honorable House will, in pursuance of the " New Provinces Act, 1865, 1 ' without delay, cau-e an Act of the General A>-si-mbly to be passed, deilaring the said District, [or any portion of such District as may be defined by His Excellency the Governor in Council in pursuance of the powers to that effect vested in him,] to be a new Province as aforesaid, [or otherwise to relieve] your Petitioners from the gross injustice and numerous vexatious hindrances under which your Petitioners are, and have been f< >r a long time past, laboring, and which alone have retarded the District of Westland from becoming one of the most, if not the most prosperous District' of Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand. And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray. Any persons having signed the Petition who object to the alteration, are requested to communicate with the undersigned, by whom their names will be erased, if desired. G. W. Shepfabd, Secretary.
