COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.

West Coast Times Office, Friday Evening. The amount of import duty collected at the Custom House to-day was L 257 12s. 3d. The following list of merchandise cleared shows ita distribution : —

As we anticipated in our last report, a large amount of business has been got through during the past week. The very favorable weather throughout has not only afforded every facility for the discharging of vessels alongsido and in the roadstead, but has giren an impetus to country business, previously held back by unfavorable weather, orders having come in freely, and arrears closed up. The addition to stocks has been considerable, but principally of every day requirements ; tho brisk demand maintaining generally values last quotod. More than an averago quantity of flour has been lunded during the week, but coming to a baro market, coupled with advices from Melbourno of a, decided improvement, prices have been maintained with an upward tendency. We quote Adelaide at Ll6 lOs.to Ll7 10s 5 Chilian, Ll4 to Lls per ton. There has been a good demand for bidk and case brandies, at a slight improvement. Bottled ales and porter do not meet with the demand anticipated for the season, prices showing a downward tendency. Blood's stout, 15s to

16s; Brass', 13s to lis per doz., are the ruling vales. Tenucnt's ale has a preference at pa;\ ing prices. Oilmen's stores continue plentiful, without improvement in value. But tor continue-, to conic forward IVcch , realising Is 3d lo la 6d per lb.

Cheese i* in butter s>upply, and prices veil maintained, several parcels of English Inning come to hand in excellent- condition.

Hams and bacon are more plentiful ; demand good, especially for tho latter, which has improved in value.

It is noticeable that provisions ol' all kinds now coming forward are, as to quality, condition, and packing, a great improvement on last year's shipments, and very suitable for this market.

Potatos have been placed at auction at LlO to Lll 5s per ton.

Oats, Californian, 5s 2d : for good samples of Taieri, 6s 3d to 6s 6d per bushel is asked.

Chaff is in fair demand at Ll7 10s to LlB 10s per ton.

The following prices have been realised by Mr G. W. Binney at auction, at his mart and on the wharf, during the week : — Chaff, LlB per ton : maize, whole, 5s 8d to 6s ; Chilian flour, Ll4 ; Canterbury do, Ll4 10s ; butter> Is 4d to Is 6d ; full weight candles, Is lid ; Whybrow's pickles, 13s ; half-pint salad oils; 9s ; currants, 6£d ; JDKZ geneva, 3 gals, 143; Saucel whisky, 10s per case ; Stewart's do, lls ; potatos, ex Nelson, LlO 5s to Lll 5s per ton ; Califoriu'an oats, 5s 2d per bushel ; Neva Stearine candles, Is Id; 1-lb salmon, 19s; Hart's flour, in 200-lb bags, Ll6 7s 6d : do, 100-lbs, Ll6 10s.

Mr Binney reports having held a large sale of drapery on the 27th ult,, the whole realising satisfactory prices.

Mr G. W. Binney reports having sold house and section in Revell-street, late the property of Mr Procter, for tho sum of L 152 j also, Messrs Mark3"and Co.'s hotel, foot of the Waimea track, forL7oo; and several other town properties at rates fully maintaining the improving values noticed in our last.
