THE MISKIN.
(TO THE EDITOtt OF THE "WEST COAST TIMES.)
Sib — Up to the hour of your paper going to press nothing has been heard of the William Miskin. I think the feeling of our fellow colonists in Hokitika is such that they would readily subsidize the Southland, steam tug, to go in search of the missing vessel. Experienced master mariners have told me today, that they -very much doubt the fact that the Miskin was sighted by the Lord Ashley, as, iv all probability it might have' been some other steamer that her master saw. An extra supply of coals "on board the Southlmid would
assist the Miskin in steaming to this place. Meantime, we have no boat in our port of sufficient capacity to go in search — the Bruce is bound for the Buller, and is not expectt d to return until Sunday next. If it is possible to send a telegram to Southland, I am sure that our worthy Commissioner, Mr Sale, will send one at once. The question of subsidy (if re- . quired) will, I feel confident, be responded to by a general subscription towards relieving the, captain, crew, and passengers, if they are afloat— Oh, dreadful subjunctive !
Active measures should be at once taken. Alpha.
