The Government • intend despatching three different parties immediately to beacon the snaggs in the river Murray. The Percy Douglas arrived to-day, from London. She reports that she spoke the New Waterwig, from Rotterdam, bound to Melbourne. * Monday, May 28. Fig iron is not obtainable here under L 8 per ton. A gold-bearing quartz reef has been discovered at a spot twelve miles from Adelaide, near the Monteete mines. The quartz, which is of great richness, is on a section of land owned by a private individual, of which a lease for five years has been obtained. It will be worked by a company which is in course of formation. In' the Supremo Court to-day, his Honor Judge Boothby read his reasons for his late proceedings, and said he should advise tho Governor to be very careful as to what steps he may take in the matter. The Attorney General replied that his Excellency would only take advice from responsible persons. Another scene ensued. In the only case that came before the full Coiu't, Judge Boothby's decision was reversed. The rest of the prisoners were left till next Criminal Sessions. Sales of plantation coffee have been effected to-day at 11£ d per lb. Yellow crystals and yellow counter sugars have been sold to-day at an advance upon last quotations. Henness/s ease brandy fetched 27s 3d to 27s 6d per oase. Messrs" Parr and Luxmore sold by auction to-day tho cargo of timber ex Southern Cross, from Puget Sound : — 7 (sic) x 3, at 4£d ; 11 x 3, 4 5-1 6 d; and 12 x 3, 4£d. Tongued and grooved flooring, 6 x 1, brought l£dper running foot. Thursday, May 31. News is to hand of heavy rains in the Far North. At a meeting of tlio Paris Exhibition Committee, it was decided to employ a paid agent to collect articles for exhibition. It is proposed to appoint Mr G. M. Waterhouse commissioner. Mr Darwent has offered to convey all articles for exhibition free, per Coorong and Aldinga. Business is dull. Wheat is offering in larger quantities at 7s. Buyers are very cautious. There are no export orders to hand. Flour, Ll6 to LI 7. Tho cargo of sugars per Jane Bell was sold by auction to-day, at an advance of about LI per ton over last rates.
