Leading Lights and Beacons for Newcastle, New South Wales.

In order to incronso tho facilities for navigating Newcastle Harbor, loading lights lor entering, and also leading lights for taking the north oliunnol, will bo exhibited on and nftor Tuesday, tho Ist May, 1866. Tho two fairway lights for entering (rod mid bright), will bo shown from beacons 228 feet apart, in a S.W. half S. and NJfl, half N. direction, erected on a clear hpneo of ground on tho hill ut tho back the town, between tho Wesleran and Catholio churches. Those for taking the north channel, also red bright, will be shown from boacons eroctod on the breakwater in tho vicinity of the old Bull Beacons, at a distance of 100 feet apart, in a W. by N. and E. by S. direction. In both oases, when tho lights aro in lino, tho bright will bo tho uppermost' and tho red the lowermost of tho two. In tho daytime, •however, tho order of colors will be reversed, sis it is intended to paint the uppor boacons red and the lower ones white. The lower or north-eastern of tho two obolisks at present, used for tho leading mark in, situaled on Shepherd's Hill, will bo removed, as likewise will bo tho remnant of tho Bull beacons on tho brcakwator. Tho exhibition of these leading lights will not necessitate different sailing directions to those already published, any 'raoro than the lights and now beacons being substituted for the obelisks and boacons which aro at present in uso. In entering the port of Nowcastlo at night great caution will dq necessary, in consequenco of tho strength of the tide, and duo allowance will havo to bo made for ebb or flow, on sighting the north channel lights, and about to alter course from S.W. £ S., with tho fairway lights in one, to W. by N., tho direction which a vessel will havo to steer to keep the north channel lights in lino to gain an anchorage in the north harbor.
