OTAGO’S SENSATIONAL WIN OVER CANTERBURY

CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night (P.A.).—Otago won a dramatic victory by 61 runs in the Plunket Shield match against Canterbury at Lancaster Park today. At stumps the previous evening, Canterbury, with nine wickets in hand, needed only 168 runs to win, and this morning 51 more were added before a wicket fell, making the score 84 for two wickets. When the third fell at 115, Canterbury’s prospects still looked bright, but half an hour later after a devastating spell by the right-hand spinner A. M. Moir, the score was 130 for nine. Canterbury was all out soon after lunch for 139. Moir, who took five wickets in the first innings, finished with six for 60 and completed an outstanding personal triumph by doing the hat trick today.
