PRESIDENT TRUMAN CUTTING SHORT HIS HOLIDAY FOR TALKS

WASHINGTON, Dec. 25 (Recd. 6 pm).—President Truman will return to Washington by air tomorrow instead of on Wednseday to confer with Mr. Acheson and Mr. Marshall, said lhe Presidential secretary, Mr. Joseph Short, today. He added that the President’s decision to cut short his vacation VTas the result of telephonic conversations with Mr. Marshall and Mr. Acheson. The decision was not due to any specific event. “I want to emphasise that nothing new or critical has developed,” said Mr. Short. The talks the President would have would concern: (1) Arrangements being made for General Eisenhower’s departure for Europe to take supreme command of the newly-created combined West European defence force. (2) Requirements for the situation in Korea in lhe light of the Chinese Communist activity there. (3) Problems of studying preparedness at home. Mr. Short said the President had decided to give himself an extra day “to do things he has to attend to” before the new Congress is convened on January 3.
