Man Fights Way Back Into Blazing House To Rescue His Violin

SYDNEY, Dec 26. —A retired musician, aged 75, dashed back into his blazing home in the suburb of Amcliffe last night to rescue his £2OO violin. The musician, Walter Bower, says: “I wanted to save my violin, but some fat-headed guy tried to prevent me going back inside, so I jabbed him and got the violin.” A passing motorist said: “I ran to Bower’s house and fought to get him out. He punched another bloke in the eye, and we had to get a fireman, who lifted him o ut by the scruff of the neck.” Bower later apologised to the man he hit. One house was gutted and two others damaged by the fire. The violin was undamaged.
