S. LUXFORD WINS NORTH ISLAND RIFLE CHAMPIONSHIP

With a score of 144, Rifleman & Luxford (Okawa, Hawke’s Bay) won the North Island rifle championship on the Putiki range yesterday. Mr Luxford also won the Marybank Aggregate, with a score of 96. Fine weather prevailed and there was a large attendance of riflemen from all parts of the North Island. The placings in the main events were: North Island championship: S. Luxford (Okawa) 144, 1; R. J. Bowie (Upper Hutt), 141, 2; R. J. Shaw (Wanganui) 140, 3. B grade: A. G. Rhodes (Featherston) 138, 1; E. Shearer (Petone) 138, 2; A. J. Sharrock (Turakina) 137, 3. C grade: G. Ellery (Turakina) 136, 1: M. R. McKenzie (Hawera) 132, 2; V. J. Newton (Ashhurst) 132, 3. Won on the count back. The teams’ match resulted in a win for Masterton No. 2 team (Opaki) 692, 1; Petone 687. 2; Featherston 678. 3. J. Curtin (Opaki) won the Putiki Aggregate with a score of 96.
