U.S.A. Will Permit Certain Shipments To Hongkong

WASHINGTON, Dec. 19 (Recd. 6 pm).- The United States intends to authorise small shipments of strategic goods to Hongkong and Macao, a Commerce Department spokesman said today.

He said: “We have no desire to strangle Hongkong. We will authorise the movement of goods which may be necessary for the minimum essential civilian requirements of Hongkong and Macao, but we are not going *o move big supplies which might bp transhipped to Communist China.” He was commenting on reports that the Hongkong Government had protested about the ‘‘American blockade.”
