P. and T. Women's League Christmas Party

, A very happy atmosphere prevailed I at the Christ Church Hall recently . when members of the P. and T. Women’s League entertained their , husbands and friends at their annual Christmas party. Visitors from Palmerston North, as well as members from local sister ' organisations were welcomed by the ’ vice-president, Mrs Murray. ’ Mr H. R. Ogg carried out the duties ’ of M.C. for the evening which took 1 the form of dancing, interspersed with items and games. The following programme was presented:— i Songs by Mrs Bellringer and the P. and T. Glee Singers. Humorous ; sketches by Mrs Putt; the portrayal, • by male members of the Post Office, i of a number of famous personalities . such as Neville Chamberlain, Winston I Churchill, Harry Lauder, etc. The ■ Drama Circle presented a humorous play entitled “The Crowning Glory," . produced by Mrs J. Richardson, the i following members were in the cast: . Mesdames Candish, Gordon, Murray, ■ Putt, Creswell, Bevege and Wallace. . The scene of the play was a beauty . parlour and members gave a realistic performance even to the point of a ' client appearing complete with headgear and mud pack. Music for the , dancing was supplied by Mrs Lennon, . extras being played by Master Terence Putt. During the evening opportun- , ity was taken by the vice-president to , present to the president of the League, Mrs B. E. A. Williams, a small gift as a token of esteem in which she is held by members. Mrs Williams has found it necessary to re- . linquish her position as president owing to her husband having resigned from the Post Office. After supper ’ the remainder of the evening was devoted to dancing. With the singing of ; “Auld Lang Syne" the party was voted as being one of the most successful ’ ever held. ,
