Well over a million people, it is expeeled. will attend Britain’s sports grounds over the period of Christmas festivities. It usually lasts three days, covering Christmas Eve. For the many clubs concerned this is a testing period which often determines the vital question of promotion and relegation. Such clubs as last season's Cup winner, Arsenal, and League champion, Portsmouth, are automatically followed by thousands ol supporters in their bid for consecutive honours. This season critical attention is also being given to the re’markable progress of the newly promoted Tottenham Hotspurs in the English First Division. In Scotland, the long-standing rivalry between Glasgow Celtic and Glasgow Hangers, who between them have shared all major honours in loothall for at least half a century, will reach its peak when these two clubs met in their traditional fixture on New Year’s Day. This match never attracts less than 100,000 spectators and is always regarded as the premier sports attraction in a country which has been the "cradle" of most recreations that now enjoy world-wide enthusiasm.
