Reinforcements For Troops In Korea
SEOUL, Dee. 1 (Reed. 11.45 pm).— Reinforcements for hard-pressed United States Ist Marine and 7th Infantry troops were today lighting through from Ham hung towards icy hills south of the Chosin reservoir, where Chinese Communists are now wearing white camouflage capes in l he snow.
A 10th Corps headquarters spokesman said that Chinese infiltration attacks eased during the night, but troops east, of the reservoir had not yet been eliminated, roadblacks cutting them off from the American supply centre Hagaru at the southern tip of the reservoir.
The South Korean Capitol Division, resuming a northward advance along the east coast against sporad/j resistance, reached a point 18 miles north of Chongjin, 38 miles from the Siberian border. United States Far East air forces yesterday unleashed “the heaviest aerial assault since early September.” Nearly 700 sorties were mounted. Fighters and light bombers claimed to have killed or wounded more than 1200 Communist troops, destroyed or damaged 275 troops and supply buildings.—Reuter.
