One Man Killed And Another Injured In Truck Accident

■ CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night )PA). —One man was killed and another in- ■ jured when a light truck in which ■ they were travelling crashed through - the railing of a bridge over the Kahbtara River, about five miles south of ■ KZaikoura, about 6.20 p.m. on Saturday. The man killed was Mr Howard William Walker, aged 18, a musterer, of “Glenwye" station, Hanmer Springs, a son of Mr and Mrs T. E. Walker, Wocdbury, Geraldine. Mr Peter Colin Turnbull, aged 26, also a musterer of "Glenwye" station, suffered a compound fracture of the right leg and lacerations to , hand. The truck, after striking the railing of the bridge, zigzagged down the bridge, sheering 47 feet of the railing before falling about 13 feet to the river-bed. Mr Walker was thrown clear, but Mr Turnbull was pinned under the right-hand rear wheel. Mr Walker died shortly after admission to the Kaikoura Hospital. Mr Turnbull, who was transferred to the Christchurch Hospital today, was was reported to be in a satisfactory condition.
