SOCIAL AND PERSOAL.

Mrs Bernard Powell, of Hawera, is spending a few days in Wanganui. Mrs H. D. Robertson, Oakland Avenue, St. John’s Hill, has returned after visiting Australia. New uniforms have been designed for Australian women in the services. Changes in the W.A.A.F. uniform include black leather sling shoulder bags, black instead of tan gloves, and nylon as well as lisle stockings. Glengarrie hats will also be worn in place of the wide brimmed felt hats and peaked caps which were similar to those worn by English Waaf’s during the war. Representatives from every branch of the nursing profession attended a memorial service in Wellington on Sunday for the late Miss E. Rs Bridges, formerly Director of Nursing in New Zealand. It was held at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, the Very Rev. D. J. Davies taking the service. The Director of Nursing, Miss F. J. Cameron, read the lesson. There were about 250 present. The Department of Health was largely represented by officers and clerical staff, including the Director-General, Dr. J, Cairney, and other divisional directors. The of St. John and the New Zealand Red Cross Society were represented, together with many of Miss Bridges’ own friends from the lay community.
