Keen Competition For Sheep At Fordell Sale

At the Fordell sale, the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., offered a yarding of 300 head of stationbred cattle and 500 shorn wethers to a good attendance of buyers. The sheep met with keen competition with good meaty shorn 4 and 6-tooth wethers making 55s 6d. A line of good shorn f. and f. 2-tooth wethers made 555. While some lines of cattle failed to reach the vendors’ reserves under the hammer, a total clearance is reported,

as these were disposed of by private treaty after the sale. The bulk of the yarding comprised of medium 2-year P.A. heifers, which realised £l3 17s to £l3 19s. Prices were: Medium shorn 2-tooth wethers, 50s 4d; shorn f. and f. 2tooth wethers, 555; shorn m.a. wethers, 55s 6d; 3-year Hereford heifers, £l5 18s; 2-year P.A. heifers, £l3 17s to £l3 19s; empty P.A. cows, £l2 6d; small P.A. heifers, £9 15s; in-calf P.A. cows, £l2 ss; Shottnorn steers, £l5 7d.
