BLOOD-STAINED JERSEY MAY PROVIDE CLUE TO MURDERER OF HAWKER
WELLINGTON, Yesterday (PA).— A grey, blood-stained jersey has been discovered by the police in the search for the killer of Nathan Clark Atkinson, 59-year’-old hawker who was found battered to death in the bedroom of his house at 104 Antigua Street, Sydenham, on the evening of October 19. The jersey was not in the house or section, and police officers and detectives consider it the most importtant lead they have had in the investigation of the case. Efforts to identify the owner are being made on a wide scale. The police believe that the jersey was worn by the murderer when he attacked Atkinson, and that it was discarded in his flight from the house. Although the search for the weapon has been unsuccessful, the discovery of the jersey may lead the police to the killer within a short time. It is thought likely that the rest killer's clothes were spattered with the blood of the dead man. If other garments are found, the task of finding the murderer will be much easier and a description of him may be pieced together.
