Improvements At Main Entrance To Tongariro National Park
RAETIHI, Last Night (OC).—A plan for the beautifying of the Bruce Road entrance to the park was tabled by the deputy Mayor of Wellington, Mr R. L. Macalister, at the annual meeting the National Park Board. The plan was prepared by Mr Hutt, officer in charge of Wellington reserves, and in addition to providing for the planting of half a mile of trees on each side of the Bruce Road highway, a small area on each side will also be laid down in grass. The plantation of a small area oil the opposite side of the road at the Bruce Road turn-off is also included In the scheme—trees in all cases to bo indigenous and selected from the park bush. The plan was approved by the meeting and it was left to the chairman, Mr D. M. Greig and the Minister for Lendo'. Hon. e"b. Corbett, to implement the work. During the recent planting season 500 trees, a mixture of totara, kaik.'.waka, koromiko, silver pine, toa ton and beech, were placed in small areas on the Chateau golf links and they have become, in most instances firmly established.
