CONDITION OF VICTIM OF FIRE-ARM ACCIDENT IS NOW COMFORTABLE

Wanganui Hospital authorities yesterday reported that Mr E. E. Churton, the 46-year-old Brunswick Road gardener, who was injured while escaping from a fire in his home on Monday night, was quite comfortable. When Mr Churton was found wounded after a loud report had been heard during the fire, it was thought that an explosion, had occurred, but investigations yesterday revealed that a single-barrel shotgun had been accidentally discharged when Mr Churton was groping for personal effects in the smoke-filled room. The charge of shot wounded him in the left side and face, and the ceiling of the room was peppered with shot.
