Cricket Season Opens Well For Hunterville HUNTERVILLE, Last Night (OC). —Hunterville got Porewa all out for 84 runs and made 278 runs on the opening day ol the new cricket season. The highest scorer for Porewa was Svendsen, who made a good 23, which included one 6 and two 4’s. Gray was next with 25, which included three 4’s. The only other Porewa player to reach double figures was Marshall, who reached 13. Hunterville made a good beginning with the bowling and soon had Clougher, Smith and Williams out with only 16 runs on the board. The fourth wicket fell at 27, and the fifth, sixth and seventh at 31. Gray and Svendsen made a good stand and brought the total on to 82 before Svendsen fell victim to Finney. The remaining two wickets produced only two more runs. The fielding of the home side was good. No catches were dropped and only eight hits got through to the boundary. The highlight of the afternoon’s play was Finney's score of 122, which included five 6’s and 16 4’s. He gave only one difficult chance. It was a bright knock and speaks well for his chances in the new Plunket Shield side. Coleman was Hunterville’s next highest scorer who showed great promise in making 32 n”t out, which included seven 4’s. The other Hunterville players to re? ch double figures were Darvill 3 n Duncan 20. Reid 18. Whittv 18 end Palmer 10. Porewa attacked with determination, but soon began to wear down before the experienced Huntervilie batsmen. In all. Porewa used seven bowlers and the fielding showed some weak patches. A happy occasion was a gift afternoon tendered to Miss Heather Daiziell, who is to be married to Mr William R. Wright, of Waihao Downs, Waimate, early next month. There was a large attendance of relatives and friends of the bride-to-be, and the function was held in St. Andrew's hall.

Mrs G. McAlley presented Miss Dalziell with a box of flowers with the best wishes of the Poukiore ladies. Mrs A. H.'rre spoke on behalf of those present and wished Miss Dalziell good luck and the best of health and happiness for the future. Miss Janet Simpson, Miss Noeline Harvey and Miss Joy Dalziell assisted the guest of the occasion to untie the parcels, which contained many gifts. Miss Heather Dalziell thanked all present for honouring her with such a happy afternoon. Football Club’s Dinner.

There was a large and representative gathering at the annual dinner of the Hunterville Football Club, which was held at the Scots’ Hall recently.
