WANGANUI CLUB GOLFERS HAD A BUSY WEEK-END

A full week-end was had by members of the Wanganui Golf Club, the finals of all championships being played and a successful open day conducted. A large number of players participated. Results of the championship matches were:— Senior.—ln the semi-final T. Casey defeated A. R. Kitto 2 up. In the final, B. M. Silk defeated T. Casey 4 and 2 over 36 holes. Casey played well to defeat Kitto in the semi-final over 18 holes, completing the course in 70, three under par. In the final, at the end of 18 holes, Silk and Casey were all square, the game being one or fluctuating fortunes, onl ysix holes being halved. Silk, at this stage was lucky to be all square as Casey’s putting was letting him down badly. Even so, both men were playing scratch golf. Over the second 18 holes, Casey started well to be 3 up after the 22nd., but Silk managed to square the game at the 27th. From then on Silk came well on to his game with his putter working magnificently and Casey’s game slumped slightly, Silk winning by 4 and 2. Middleweight final.—K. S. Handley defeated H. Ruru 6 and 5. Junior final.—P. A. London defeated K. H. Gibbons 5 and 4. Consolation handicap—Semi finals: E. Donovan defeated W. G. Clayton at the 25th. after six extra holes had been played on handicap. E. Cordingley defeated D. A. Cameron 5 and 3. Final: E. Cordingly defeated E. Donovan. OPEN DAY RESULTS. Results of the Open Day competitions were:— Men’s stableford bogey.—A grade: L. Keltic, 35 points; G. J. Hussey, 35 points; J. P. Carde, 35 points. B grade: C. Stuart, 32 points. Men’s bogey.— A grade: J. Farley, 4 up; E. Donovan, 2 up; D. G. Young, 1 up. B grade: G. Stone Wigg, 1 up. Women’s bogey.—Miss Murray, all square; Mrs E. H. Everett, 2 down. Mixed fourball bogey.—J. Farley and Mrs S. Jones, 9 up; H. T. Cox and Miss Murray, 7 up; Mr and Mrs D. G. Young, 5 up; W. G. Fisher and Mrs Gaskin, 5 up. Next Saturday will be the official closing day for the winter season, when a mixed Canadian foursome and the Kellick Foursomes will be playea. Trophies won during the season will be presented. Entries for the summer singles, fourball and the points competition close on November 5.
