PEDESTRIAN INJURED WHILE CROSSING STREET AT WAVERLEY

When he came into contact with a motor-car while walking across the main street of Waverley, at 4.30 p.m. yesterday, Mr. Cyril E. Shirley, aged 46, received head injuries and a fractured right aim. He was admitted to the Wanganui General Hospital and his condition last night was reported to be serious.

Mr. Shirky, who came from Katkohe, L’orlbland, had been staying at the Clarendon Hotel, Waverley, for about six months. He was crossing the street near the hotel and it is believed th-d he walked into the side of the car. One wrist was caught in a door handle anu he was dragged for a snort distance.

Th- s car. which was being driven by Mr. H. C. R. Horner, of New Plymouth, was travelling in the direction of Taranaki. Because of his deafness, Mr. Shirley may not have heard it approach.

The injured man was attended by Dr. P. V. Graves, Waverley, and was brought to the Wanganui Hospital by an ambulance which had been attending the Waverley races.
