Importance Of Standards Institute In Promoting Production increases
PARLIAMENT BLDGS., Last Night (PA).—While recent criticism of the New Zealand Standards Institute indicates a healthy interest in its activities, the significance and importance of standardisation is so widely recognised in all countries today that New Zealand cannot afford to ignore the economic benefit derived therefrom, said the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Bowden) tonight, it had been claimed by numerous competent authorities overseas that no other single factor was so potent as a means of increasing production and correspondingly reducing the costs of production and distribution, said the Minister.
After reviewing the organisation of the institute, its workings and the importance of the standard specifications already adopted by local authorities, the Minister said that no standard specification was declared by him until all the affected parties had been given an opportunity to make their comments.
