MODERN WEATHER STATION TO BE AT INVERCARGILL

INVERCARGILL, Last Night (PA). —The biggest most modern weather observing station in New Zealand is now being built at Invercargill, and it is due to start operations in about six weeks. Technicians yesterday began the installation of radar equipment which will provide information at present unobtainable for the Dominion Meteorological Office at Wellington. This will result in greater accuracy in the national weather forescasts. With the new station Invercargill will become a key terminal in Dominion weather. Forecasting fronts that determine the Dominion’s weather often pass on to Southland from the sea in their jourjiey northward, and reliable information about these fronts will be obtained by the use of the new equipment.
