ESCAPED MONKEY SHOT

HASTINGS, Last Night (PA).—An escaped monkey had to be shot in the Interests of public safety in Hastings this afternoon after it had been at large for about 24 hours. It was owned by a Hastings sideshow proprietor and was a large specimen which could have been dangerous. It escaped yesterday afternoon from its cage and unsuccessful efforts were made to entice it back to captivity. It was at large throughout the night. This afternoon it was seen in a timber yard, where a large crowd gathered to watch its antics, causing it to become excited and rather threatening. A decision therefore was made to dispatch it. It finally was cornered and shot by the police on the roof of a nearby house.
