Case Of Man With 100 Wives Dropped By United Nations
NEW YORK, Oct. 4.—The problem of Fon of Bikom, who is reported to have a household of some hundred wives, was revived in the United Nations today with an appeal that “we should leave the man alone.” Recalling that lhe ladies of the Si. John’s Society in London complained about Fon to the Trusteeship Count.l in 1948, Awni Khalidy, of Iraq, told the Trusteeship Committee that a recent United Nations mission to Africa had killed the subject by its thorough study. He said it was not clear why the matter has attraced so much attention. “We should leave the man alone. It is enough trouble to have to marry a hundred women at one stroke. Any husband can tell you that. On the contrary, in one sense the man merits admiration for being able to co’pe with this amolunt of feminine charm. If we cannot do such a thing ourselves, let us not interfere with someone who can.” No further references to Fon and his wives were made when lhe committee continued the discussion of the Trusteeship Council's report.
