Mauve And Purple May Be Fashionable For Next Year
Forecasts are already being made about the colours which will be fashionable in 1951—the Festival of Britain year. Mauve has become increasingly important this year, and the British Colour Council states that, the trend may well be significant. The mauve and purple influence was predominant at the time of the 1851 Exhibition m London. when the Crystal Palace was seen for the first time, so perhaps history will repeat itself. Mauve is not a difficult colour to wear, although some women seem to think that it is aging, but given the right make-up it can be charming. Ash-blondes and brunettes, of course, will enjoy themselves if these colours come back, for there is nothing so becoming to them; it is the woman with the mid-brown colouring who must be careful, but so long as the purple Is rich and deep in tint and if it is relieved by smoke-grey, a dress or ensemble can be most successful. It should, of course, be avoided by people with a high colour, since purple tends to make them look ruddier than they are, but the beauty specialist should able to give good advice.
