CHILDREN’S APPEAL LAGGING, DATE OF CLOSING EXTENDED
Because of the slow response, due to a number of reasons, the 1950 United Nations Appeal for Children in the Wanganui district has been extended to September 30. The Mayor, the Hon. W. J. Rogers, M.L.C., chairman of the appeal, in a statement issued yesterday, said:
“The" Wanganui District Committee has been glad to offer this additional tiriie for the public to make contributions, and it is confidently anticipated that by the end of this month we shall have reached our quota.
"Wanganui city has collected a large share of the to'i.al to date, and now that a constant stream of contributions is being received in the various country areas the total district fund is mounting rapidly. In 1948 the quota for this district was £lO,OOO and we exceeded it. Our 1950 quota is a little higher at £12,000, and the combined efforts ol all the people will be required to reach that target within the next ten days.
“On behalf of »he committee I appeal to every citizen and resident, in cur district to add to the contributions that they have already made, and tn see that. Wanganui leads New Zealand in being the first io reach the target set,’’ said Mr Rogers.
