Move To Have Taihape To Napier Road Made A Highway

TAIHAPE, Last Night (OC).-A further move was made by the Chamber of Commerce to bring home to the Main Highways Board the urgent necessity for the Taihape-Hawke’s Bay road to be declared a main highway or a State Highway, states the annual report of the Taihape Chamber of Commerce. “As a result of the chamber’s efforts and a number of local bodies and other chambers concerned taking concerted action and making similar representations to the Main Highways Board, the board has promised to give the matter consideration during the coming year, but of course, there is no assurance that any improvements will be effected to the road,” states the report.. "It is interesting to note that a portion of the road in the Hawke s Bay county is already a main highway, while that section of it in the Rangitikei county is regarded by State authorities as a local county road. Tins position appears to the chamber to be anomalous and it will continue to press for an alteration," the report added.
