Highly Prized German Shell Case Presented To Wanganui Savage Club
The brass case from a high velocity German shell, one of gieat sentimental value for its owner, has bean presented to the Wanganui Savage Club. b The case was in the possession of Savage Harrison Loe. of Auckland, who was with the King’s Own Scottish Borderers in France. That regiment was under constant fire from a German gun in the final stages of World War 1, and the empty case of the last shell fired before that gun fell came into Mr. Lee’s hands. It was a highly prized possesion, which ho has bi on able to retain all these years. As a gesture, in recognition of the kindnesses he has received ir. Wanganui and his regard for Sa\agery, Mr. Loe has handed the case to the local club. The presentation was made on Saturday night by Past A. J. W. Hodder on behalf of Mr. Lee, who, be. ause of ill health was unable to be present. The Rangatira of the Club (Savage A. F. Newrick) accepted the trophy with a great deal of enthusiasm, and extended to Mr. Harrison Lee the good wishes of all Wanganui Savages.
