MRS. KATHLEEN BEATRICE McGONAGLE. married, aged 35, with three children, of 20 Durie Vale Road. Her husband, Mr. William John Darcy McGonagle, builder, who was also a passenger in the car, received superficial cuts. He was taken to the Wanganui General Hospital by ambulance and after receiving treatment was able to go home. The driver of the car, Mrs. Kathleen O’Leary, of Te Awamutu, a sis-ter-in-law of Mrs. McGonagle, was uninjured. The the occupants of the car were in the front seat. The accident occurred shortly before 1.45 a.m. The car had turned into Durie Vale Road from Portal Street, which leads up Durie Hill, and had travelled only a short distance when it became out of control. The vehicle ran into a bank on the right-hand side of the road and then overturned. It was travelling on a down grade at the time. Mrs. McGonagle was trapped under the car and killed instantly. An inquest was opened before the coroner, Mr. K. Forsythe, yesterday morning, and after evidence of identification had been taken was adjourned sine die.
