Mr. A. H. Sage has retired from the position of comptroller of stores, New Zealand Railways, after 40 years’ service. Mr. Sage, who served in both world wars, won the Military Medal in 1917, was awarded the OBE (Military Division) in 1942, when he commanded the Railway Operating Group, New Zealand Engineers, in North Africa.

Mr. C. Hair, secretary of the New Zealand Workers’ Union, and Mr. R. Jones, secretary of the Canterbury branch of the Engineering Trades Union, are to tour the United States for six weeks as the guests of the American Federation of Labour, to study trade union organisation in America. The secretary oi the Federation of Labour, Mr. K. McL. Baxter, said that Messrs. Hair and Jones had been selected by the National executive as there was insufficient time for a ballot.
