Jockey Club Stewards Make Presentation To Retiring Timekeeper
Before racing commenced on Saturday, the opening day of the Wanganui Jockey Club’s spring meeting, stewards and honorary officers of the club gathered in the stewards' lounge to de honour to Mr. T. Currie, who bad retired from office as honorary timekeeper In making, on behalf of members, a gift of a case of pipes to Mr. Currie as a mark of their esteem, the president. Mr. F. F. Newman, paid a tribute to the services rendered by Mr. Currie over a period of 34 years and expressed the hope that he would enjoy many years of retirement. Expressing appreciation of the gift ana the sentiments which accompanied it. Mr. Currie said that he had accepted the position as timekeeper in 1916 iind had missed only one meeting. He felt that the time had arrived when
a younger man could take on the duties. At the annual meeting laut month Mr. C. R. S. Paterson was elected to fill the vacancy.
