NO VISITORS ARE ALLOWED IN R.S.A. BAR AT WELLINGTON
WELLINGTON, Last Night (P.A.). —As from this morning visitors were debarred from using the Wellington R.S.A.’s bar facilities which have been operating for the past six weeks under a club charter granted by the Licensing Control Commission. This followed an undertaking given to the Commission today by Ihe de-puty-president of the Wellington R.S.A., Mr. H. Mitchell, in light, of statements made yesterday before the Commission that visitors were allowed on premises two days each week. Pointing out that he had not taken part in the proceedings before the Commmission when the charter had been granted, Mr. Mitchell said that the rules governing the admission of members had been made in conformity with the practice thought to be adopted by other chartered clubs. The association never had in mind that what was being done would meet with the disapproval of the Commission. For the first few days, he said, difficulty had been experienced in controlling even those eligible for admission. However, a club sergeantmajor had since been appointed and proof of membership was required. There had been 520 local visitors and 216 from outside the 25-milc limit.
