Donations In Marton For United Nations Appeal Total Over £ll0
Recent publicity of United Nations Appeal for Children has given impetus to the campaign in Marton and contributions this week have been flowing fairly freely into the depots in town. Although no figure has yet been published as to Marton’s target, it is the aim of the organisers to raise £500,000 within New Zealand for the purchasing of food, medical supplies and other goods for needy children overseas.

RANGITIKEI RUGBY SEASON TO CLOSE ON SEPTMBER 9.
Further representative matches were arranged by the Rangitikei Rugby Union at its meeting in Marton on Wednesday night. The season is to close in the district on September 9 when a return game between Rangi- 1 tikei and Wanganui will be played at Marton.
On July 29 (race day at Marton) the Rangitikei juniors are to play Dannevirke at Dannevirke. and on the following Saturday seniox' and junior rep matches are to be played against Oroua at Marton. On the same say, the Rngitikei thirds play Manawatu at Feilding. The Rangitikei thirds are to journey to Kimbolton on August 19 to play Oroua.
The Taihape Rugby Union wrote suggesting return third and junior grade rep matches at Taihape and Hunterville respectively on September 9. It was agreed to accept the third grade match but Taihape is to be asked to send its junior team to Marton instead of Hunterville, to play Rangitikei, as a curtain-raiser to the senior match against Wanganui. The Dannevirke Rugby Union wrote that as Oroua had accepted August as the date for the challenge matci for the Bebbington Shield, Rangitikeils challenge on that day could not be played. An alternative date would be notified later. PERSONAL. Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Eagle, who are leaving Marton shortly to reside in the Levin district, are being farewelled at an after-church social hour in the Methodist School hall tomorrow night. Mr. S. Geange, of Marton, was involved in an unusual accident recently while driving a light motor-car. A truck approaching Mr. Geange shed a spare wheel, which bounced into the front of Mr. Geange’s car, causing considerable damage. JUSTIFIED FALSE ALARM. Yesterday morning’s heavy frost re suited in the Marton Fire Brigade receiving a justified false alarm at about, : 8.30 o’clock. The automatic sprir.’ system at the Marton Sash, Door and Timber Company’s mill at Marton Junction was affected.
