New Rugby Competition Arranged For Senior Teams In Rangitikei

For the purpose of keeping players fit for forthcoming representative matches, the Rangitikei Rugby Union at a meeting of the management committee on Wednesday night decided to play a special one-round competition at the end of the senior championship. The suggestion came from the Old Boys’ delegate, Mr H. G. Stewart, who said that players were of the opinion that July was too soon to end club football. These tames would also assist in keeping players fit for representative engagements, seeing that Rangitikei had a rep. programme extending into the second week of September. Mr Stewart further suggested that these club matches continue while the reps were playing. Delegates from the Hunterville, Rata and Ohingaiti clubs did not think their seniors could field a team, extending so late in the season, especially if it was intended to play when the reps were playing. After further discussion it was agreed to allow Hunterville and Ohingaiti, and Rata and Bulls to combine to join Old Boys and Athletic in a one-round competition to commence on August' 5. Such a scheme with four teams will occupy three playing Saturdays.
