CANADA GETS READY FOR ANY EMERGENCY
OTTAWA, July 20 (Recd. 7.lopm) The Canadian Defence Minister, Mr Brooke Claxton, last night made a radio broadcast appeal for volunteers tor Canada's armed services and for reserves.
"Circumstances now justify the recruiting of additional men without any stated ceiling,” he said. "Thi« does not mean that we expect another world war. It does mean that, by being in as good a state of preparation as the resources made available permit, we will be doing our part to prevent war. As an immediate step we are going to press on with the recruiting, training and arming ot our forces so as to be as ready as time and money permit to meet whatever emergency or development the future may hold. Canada needs young men to serve her full time iq the active force or part-time in the reserve force of the Army, Navy and the Air Force.”
